We are preparing to be “empty nesters”. It’s less ‘preparation’ than it is ‘being bodily dragged into an unavoidable situation’, but we like to think we’re dealing well with this. Our baby is headed to college. In less than two weeks, they’ll be 2,200 miles from home (2,223 miles, but who’s counting?). The emotional turmoil that has overtaken us from time to time over the last few months has gone from Woo! I’ve successfully raised a thinking, caring human being! to I need to go lie down and cry for a while. It’s a lot.
The lesson here is that, while change is inevitable, you can choose your path for dealing with it. And it’s okay to wander about, feeling a little confused. The industry has changed in ways this past year that nobody really thought that it could, let alone would, and the manner in which we’ve all adapted and met this challenge shows us that art wraps itself around the change -- that the artist is as important as the art, and that care for the artist is essential to that change.

Scene Study Fundamentals is a small-group collaborative (8 students max) for dedicated actors and multi-hyphenates. In this 6 week class, we will delve into the foundational craft practice that is necessary for any actor to take the leap into memorable scene work.
