Sometimes, in order to do your most authentic work, you put on an alter ego. It can unlock your creative animal and release your voice. It’s kind of a chicken and egg scenario: is it the persona that allows the true voice to come through or does that true voice belong to the person within the persona? We all have a responsibility to find our way into our own artistry and find our own voice. It is a never ending process, and creating personas outside of ourselves is a basic element of our human-ness. Is it healthy disassociation? Is it creative genius? Is it something else?

When we were kids, we were encouraged to wear costumes on Halloween. By donning a facade, we free ourselves of expectation, able to express different identities, exploring our own identity within them. This exploration breeds confidence -- it is like a cloak of invisibility in which we can experiment to create and listen to our truest authentic voice.

Scene Study Fundamentals is a small-group collaborative (8 students max) for dedicated actors and multi-hyphenates. In this 6 week class, we will delve into the foundational craft practice that is necessary for any actor to take the leap into memorable scene work.

MEISNER
Focusing on authentic use of self, listening and responding, as well as engaging spontaneously with your acting partner, this class will guide you in the pursuit of Meisner’s definition of acting, ‘the ability to behave truthfully under imaginary circumstances’.

Meisner’s undeniably effective approach to the craft of acting will serve as a bedrock for your entire career:

  • exercise what it truly means to work moment to moment off of your scene partner

  • hone your ability to come to a deep personal point of view in order to make intuitive and creative choices

  • spontaneously awaken emotional life caused by your partner and/or the act of doing

  • learn to craft action that will give you the fluidity required to encounter obstacles and adjust in pursuit of your character’s needs

This class is offered exclusively IN PERSON (Atlanta, GA) and meets 2x/week for (6) weeks. This class is open to fully vaccinated screen artists only.

GUEST STAR SERIES REGULAR
For professional working actors, this is our most challenging and advanced class. 

Co-founders Erica Arvold & Richard Warner lead this eight (8) week on-your-feet virtual scene study course focused on the nuance and craft work necessary to achieve consistent guest star and series regular screen work.

A small ensemble of seasoned actors will explore together complex scenes in great depth using the Arvold Warner Total Preparation approach as a fundamental analytical tool for sustaining embodied, plot driven, character creation and performance.

GSSR will explore five vital elements:

  • nuanced craft skill

  • in-character thinking

  • authentic confidence

  • sustained charisma

  • approach to career status

Participants will: 

  • develop screen test skills

  • understand GSSR expectations on set

  • heighten script analysis

  • enhance character relationship

  • experience creating a season-long character arc
