knowledge: it doesn't move an actor's career forward (you need to apply it too)
Knowledge alone isn't all it's made out to be, especially for artists.
If you love accumulating information to feel more in control of the unknowns of your acting career, you are in great company. But...90% of knowledge that actors seek is superfluous. Only 10% of the knowledge you seek can be leveraged into moving your career forward.
And, that 10% doesn't move a career forward on its own, it must be APPLIED.
what does NOT matter
As a veteran tv/film casting director, the questions I receive 90% of the time from actors fall into two 'silver bullet' categories.
•how do I get noticed/remembered? OR what can I do to stand out?
•what are my chances? OR how many other actors are being seen?
The answer to both of the above questions is:
DO GOOD WORK.
If you are doing good work, the first question falls into place. Doing good work also proves to yourself that you are enough, and the second question becomes irrelevant.
what also matters
Throughout my career, I've witnessed profound appreciation for actors with the following knowledge:
•An understanding of your own acting craft.
•A general understanding of how the film/tv industry works.
apply your knowledge
Once you have the 10% of knowledge that matters, you must hone it through practice & further learning to expand your career.
personally speaking...
This is why I founded ArvoldWarnerStudio.com. Because the necessary knowledge isn't all that matters...applying it through practice and further learning on a consistent basis with fellow artists is a game-changer.
