The creative process requires stepping back and listening to the questions people ask. It’s a very odd feeling to be discussing craft with a fellow artist and discovering that something that is certain to you is not certain to them, or vice versa. Art is a collaboration, and it’s always a surprise to find a gap in our knowledge. Addressing those gaps makes better art, because it means that our understanding of the other becomes clearer.
Sandy Meisner said, “To be an interesting actor – hell, to be an interesting human being – you must be authentic and for you to be authentic you must embrace who you really are, warts and all.” This drive toward your own authenticity, your own truth, is one of the core aspects of growing your art. Telling the truth is the key to success as an artist, because then you make everything you do believable.

MEISNER
Focusing on authentic use of self, listening and responding, as well as engaging spontaneously with your acting partner, this class will guide you in the pursuit of Meisner’s definition of acting, ‘the ability to behave truthfully under imaginary circumstances’.
Meisner’s undeniably effective approach to the craft of acting will serve as a bedrock for your entire career:
exercise what it truly means to work moment to moment off of your scene partner
hone your ability to come to a deep personal point of view in order to make intuitive and creative choices
spontaneously awaken emotional life caused by your partner and/or the act of doing
learn to craft action that will give you the fluidity required to encounter obstacles and adjust in pursuit of your character’s needs

For professional working actors, this is our most challenging and advanced class.
Co-founders Erica Arvold & Richard Warner lead this eight (8) week on-your-feet virtual scene study course focused on the nuance and craft work necessary to achieve consistent guest star and series regular screen work.
