“You miss 100% of the opportunities you don’t go for” is the maxim my dad always pushed. It’s trite, sure, but it’s also correct. Committing yourself to action is the only way to get what you want. That UNNAMED PERSON role with the bland sides you decided not to submit for? That was a high-profile role in a TBA MCU movie. That great idea you’ve got for a script? Write it down and get to work. That TV show you love from 30 years ago that doesn’t translate well to today because of dialogue/cast/shooting style/etc.? Keep a journal of your differing choices -- you might be able to turn it into the pitch you’ve been looking for. Commit yourself to your craft (take classes, read, work with a coach or partner, write that first draft), because the professionals who will recommend you or hire you or want to collaborate with you value your creative commitment and the practiced strength of it.
