Class Description: “We act with our bodies.” Obvious, right? However, the screen artist’s physical wisdom can quickly be overshadowed by the mind. While script analysis is an essential part of our practice it can also get us caught in our heads. Our imagination is driven by our senses. Thinking critically is simply one tool in our kit. Let’s explore another route to invigorating our senses and imagination. Embodiment.
Embodiment is defined as “the representation or expression of something in a tangible or visible form.” The tangible form is you, the actor. Spending time developing your character's physicality is key to preparation. It also greatly informs how we choose to interpret the script. In this class, we will explore mindfulness practices and movement methods that will invite unique entry points to serve deeper character understanding and development.
