An actor's trust in CREATIVE INSTINCT can apply to all. of. us.
Actors must trust many, many things in order to make a living. The most important aspect of this is to trust their own creative instinct.
We can all learn from this.
An actor's creative instinct is what fuels their entire career, and is the secret sauce as to why they are hired for on-screen work in the first place.
For example: imagine Viola Davis, Pedro Pascal, Timothée Chalamet, Lily Collins, Denzel Washington, Jerrod Carmichael, Sandra Oh, Nick Offerman, Selena Gomez, Jack Nicholson, or Michaela Coel playing a character that is approached by a stranger asking for directions.
Imagine how each one of these actors (even when 'in character' and doing scripted material) might likely react to the situation. Differently from one another, eh? Same lines, different impulse, different reaction, different creative instinct. One may be more hesitant, one may crack a joke, one may feel combative, etc.
Now imagine yourself in that situation. How are you unique?
I've been a casting director for quite some time (decades) and this uniqueness of each actor's essence is an essential part of their charisma. Coupled with acting craft, each actor's creative instinct becomes their superpower. They are all being a part of "themselves".
And, you have this charisma too.
Being yourself is as unique as you can be.
Knowing and trusting your own creative instincts is what makes you, well, YOU. And that uniqueness ebbs/flows and is memorable, magnetic, needed in the world, and your very own superpower.
